Many people are asking why mass shootings happen more frequently in the United States. Researchers state owning a gun provides some people with a sense of identity. They also said no other country has so many guns available and so easily available as the U.S. And that, is as the heart of the problem. I wanted to look at Americas excessive interest in guns, and what the gun means to them.“America does have a fascination with guns that is unlike what we see in any country in the industrialized world,” Alexandra Filindra, University of Illinois at Chicago associate professor, had said about the sate of the issue. Filindra said it’s estimated there are between 300 and 350 million guns in civilian hands in the United States.Even though gun ownership in America has declined from 49 percent of households in the early 70s to 36 percent in 2016, that also means on average a gun-owning household has 8 to 10 firearms. Filindra’s research has led her to believe that it’s not about security. “This is not about security. People love firearms for other reasons, they make them feel good, they make them feel important and strong and virtuous and it signifies something good about themselves".
Theater of the opressed exists to engage the audience and community in the perfrmance. It offers a vehicle for social change at a very accessible level. I think the idea of asking the audience what the right choice is or to come up on stage and be a part of the performance is such an interestig cocept. It reminds me of those books that are "choose your own adventure". This seems to be a belief that many different theaters have in their own company beliefs section so it seems to be a relatively popuar idea within the theater world. Or, at leat, well known. I wonder if having the play interrupted would ruin the imaginary world which has been created. Is there a better way to get the audience involved without changing the traditional structure of a play?
