After researching a bit I found Augusto Boal’s theater methodology is used in over 80 countries on every continent. People are adding new games and exploring new ways to add to it.
It is definitely a remarkable way to engage actors, an audience, and bodies addressing social and political concerns. A considerable amount of this practice resonated with me. First, how these theatrical forms could be used to spark a revolution, conversation, and a call to action around current world events. Also, the exploration of the inter-related aspects of participants becoming aware of their bodies using them as a form of expression, while building community was intriguing. I appreciate the creation of theater through the lens of verbal and non-verbal language and activating the audiences.
Another interesting point from this reading was the use of photography as a language of expression was brilliant. The inspired photo stories from the Peruvians were heartfelt and poignant. I loved them. Also, the dramaturgy portion with the wife discovering the husband’s mistress letters and the audience having to help determine an outcome for the actors was brilliant.
