Three Key Ideas:


 1.   "Further, this work tends to be less concerned with producing objects per se than with a process of collaboration, which is understood to produce certain pedagogical effects in the
community."
   
      - By producing pedagogical effects in the community, it not only brings awareness but also helps the community grow as inviduals and as one. Art is a language that is understood in all languages, it is also a factor in the growth of any and every community. In some case art is an escape from reality, this encourages anyone to display their perspective on life, the world, and most of all social and or political issues.



2. "This "new genre" of public art, according to critic Suzi Gablik, "takes the form of interactive, community-based projects inspired by social issues."

    - When members of a community come together to face any issue, their main goal is to shed light upon what and how this issue is affecting them. Art helps to convey the message when words arn't enough. Social issues inspire community base projects and help give the community a voice when needed.




3.  In regards to William Bennett’s idea that “arts funding allows the state to support ‘deadbeat’ degenerates who can't earn a real living and whose works ‘teach’ bad, anti-American values.” is a strong yet pathetic statement. These art funded programs allow individuals of all ages to express, educate, and enlighten society in many ways. For those who can't have a voice, art is their only alternative. Whether it be to higlight social or political issues, sometimes a picture is worth a thousand words.

2. Art is a form of giviing voice to a community, but when art is considered a form of supporting deadbeat degenerates as William Bennett describes, where do we draw the line?

3. How can an artist convey their message through art with out being provocative?
