The Transborder Immigrant Tool - Fernando Mitre

CONTEXT:

Electronic Disturbance Theatre (EDT) released the Transborder Immigrant Tool, which got investigated by the government for causing controversy on the political scene.

CONTENT:

The Transborder Immigrant Tool provides poetry to immigrants crossing the U.S.-Mexico border while leading them to water caches in the desert.

FORM:

Mobile-phone technology was used for the Transborder Immigrant Tool

STAKEHOLDERS:

Ricardo Dominguez and the artists of EDT/b.a.n.g lab

AUDIENCE:

The main audience for this project were the people crossing the boarder

ENGAGMENT STRATEGIES:

The poetry recordings that are delivered through the app to the immigrants. 

GOAL:

The goal was to guide immigrants find water caches and guide them through the dessert with the use of poetry to create a global poetic system.

VALUES:

To help those needing to transition into the US through the Mexico/US boarder. And to create change through “theatrical conversation”

RESOURCES:

UCSD and the writers and artist recording the poetry

OUTCOMES:


Even though there was a lot of controversy caused by this project. In the end investigations had to stop due to the fact that the law wasn't broken. Allowing the project to continue to help immigrants crossing the boarder.

Assignment: Aesthetic Evangelists - Due 1/30    Three key ideas in the text that resonate with me: The first is the idea of the "new public art," or what we would call "community engaged art." The article discusses the transition from art displayed in public sites to community based projects that have the goal of collaboration and focus more on the process than the end result/outcome.
